CUCULA is a Berlin based manufacturing and educational project. The project, that enables refugees to build up their own future by making furniture, is based on the design of Italians ‘open source designer avant la lettre’ Enzo Mari.

Working with and not for these newcomers CUCULA aims to empower them financially, socially and with crafting skills. By doing so it is also a platform for an interdisciplinary and intercultural exchange. The economical integration model is a design subject, as well as a scope for new societal chances. The focus lies on the potentials and talents of each individual.

All products are limited on a certain quantity. We are a small manufacture and we are producing each piece individually. Quite in the sense of Enzo Mari we are focusing on a practical mediation of educational contents. We want to provide enough space for creativity and to realize a harmonious relation between learning and reflecting in the process. Therefore we manufacture only a specific number of furniture per month. You can buy the products at the online shop or come by and visit us at our showroom in 10999 Berlin, Paul-Lincke-Ufer 41 (opening hours: wednesday 2:00 – 5:00 pm).

CUCULA is an association, a workshop and an educational program, all in one, established for and together with refugees in Berlin.
